🎳 Season 6 Week 11 | Singles Tournament 🎳

9 bowlers.. 1 major champion.. 4 weeks delay... its finally time for the first singles tournament of season 6! 👀

1 game of qualifying, cut to top 4, match play finals.. but there can only be 1 champion!

With 2 current female champions and 3 male champions, can the ladies tie up the ratio?!

Qualifying

To make the cut you had clear 200+ with handicap as the lanes started with lots of mid-lane hook for the bowlers to compete with!

1 Seed: Our top qualifier was Andrew Tapping with a 217 game! 

He struck on his last ball of the game to claim to the top seed by just 1 pin!

2 Seed: Our 2nd place qualifier was Will Roarty with a 216 game! 

Finishing his qualifying game with XX9 to narrowly miss the top seed!

3 Seed: Our 3rd place qualifier, again by just 1 pin, was Sue Purnell with a 204 handicap game!

Can Sue become our 3rd female champion?!

4 Seed: Our 4th place qualifier, narrowly missing out after striking to finish his qualifying game, was Tim Wood with a 203 handicap game!

Can he leverage his recent tournament experience in the finals bracket?!

Semi-Finals

The semi-finals commence with seeds 1v4 & 2v3!

Match 1

Starting with our 1v4 seed match, Andrew Tapping takes on Tim Wood in the first semi-final!

As the top seed Andrew gets lane choice and chose to stay where he was, forcing Tim to move to a fresh lane to try and figure out!

Andrew started strong but Tim hung around and forced a close match with only 8 pins being the deciding amount!

Andrew took the win with a 214 v 206 for Tim! 

Andrew moves on the grand finals to play the winner of match 2!

Match 2

In our second semi-final match, Will Roarty and Sue Purnell took to the lanes!

As Will was the higher seed he also chose to stay on his starting pair, forcing Sue to make the move where Tim just left!

In another close match, with only 7 pins being the difference in this one, it came down to the final shots of the match!

Will was a sniper picking up spares and splits to keep the game close, making the adjustment to finish with the back 4 strikes to close out a 210 game and force Sue to show up in the 10th frame!

Sue played an excellent game, also sparing everything left in front of her to give herself a chance to win! Coming down to the final frame, Sue needed a mark to take the win and left a 5 pin! No pressure at all... Sue calmly picked up the spare and struck on her final shot to book her place in the grand final with a 217 v 210 victory!

Finals

Losers Finals

Starting with the losers finals.. Will Roarty versus Tim Wood!

They returned to their starting pair to fight for 3rd place!

Will continued to open the lanes up, moving deep and swinging the ball to find the pocket!

Tim continued to play up the boards to keep his angles tight!

 Ultimately Will managed to stay consistent with his set, closing out with a 205 and a 631 scratch for 3!

Tim struggled a bit with the transition and became the king of 7-2! Falling short with a 177 handicap game to close out the losers finals!

Final Scores:

Well bowled to Tim Wood for a solid performance in the tournament but it wasn't meant to be this time round!

Grand Finals

Its time for the GRAND FINAL!

Will Andrew Tapping become our first 2 time major champion? Or will Sue Purnell become our 3rd female champion?!

The grand final took place on a pair of lane completely fresh to both competitors! 

How will this effect our 2 finalists?!

Well it turns out the left looked nice and Sue turned up to play! 

She improved each game during the tournament and shot her highest game in the final!

Starting with double, spare, double, she jumped out to an early lead!

The right side looked hard and Andrew struggled to get going!

Unfortunately the lanes never got easier and Andrew recorded his lowest game of the night!

The finals scores were in after 10 frames of fierce competition!

Our non-qualifying bowlers compete for the regular season win on the night after the top 4 is decided!

Our winner, in his 2nd appearance in the league, going 2 for 2 on regular season wins.. Tristan Ferguson!

Congratulations on the great bowling and a great adjustment in game 3 to finish out with a 201 to claim the victory! 🥇

Sweeper

We also run a sweeper during the tournament where every game has its own prize pot!

Sue would have won all 3 if she decided to play! 😅

Instead she let the rest of the league fight for the pots in the 3 games on the night!
